Back to School Portraits for the Coolest Homeschool Kids in Oceanside, CA

These mini back-to-school portrait sessions were such a fun way to kick off the school year! I had the chance to photograph a group of homeschool kiddos- my sister’s homeschool group in Oceanside, CA. Each child got their own 10-minute session, which was perfect for their attention spans and gave us just enough time to make some magic.

I set up a sweet little scene using a burnt orange canvas backdrop from Ultraviolet Backdrops and the cutest vintage school chair I sourced just for the shoot. Most of these kids had never even seen a single-seat school desk like this before (crazy, right?!), since they usually learn in group stations. That little detail made it feel even more special and nostalgic.

The photos turned out vibrant, candid, and full of personality- just like the kids themselves. I also snapped a Polaroid of each child to take home the same day, because I love offering a little instant keepsake.

These sessions were quick, easy, and full of charm. I’d love to do more of these for other homeschool groups or even traditional school families who want something a little more fun than the standard school portrait.
